Prohibited Items Policy

Overview

ReNew Market is a marketplace for secondhand, upcycled, repaired, and sustainably sourced goods. To protect our community, maintain legal compliance, and uphold our sustainability mission, certain items are strictly prohibited from being listed or sold on our platform.

This policy applies to all sellers regardless of location, account type, or listing history. Prohibited items will be removed without notice and repeat violations may result in permanent account suspension.

If you are unsure whether an item is permitted, err on the side of caution and contact our support team before listing.

Counterfeit Goods & Intellectual Property Violations

The following are strictly prohibited and may result in legal referral to brand rights holders:

• Counterfeit, replica, or "inspired by" goods that use trademarked logos, branding, or designs without authorisation
• Items described as "fake", "dupe", "knock-off", or "replica" of a branded product
• Unauthorised reproductions of copyrighted artwork, photographs, or designs
• Items that infringe on registered trademarks, design rights, or patents
• Pirated digital content sold in physical form (bootleg DVDs, unlicensed prints)
• Items using brand names or logos in misleading ways that suggest official authorisation

Genuine secondhand or upcycled branded items are permitted provided they are authentic and accurately described. We cooperate fully with verified rights holders and comply with all DMCA takedown requests.

Dangerous, Unsafe & Illegal Items

• Weapons: Firearms, ammunition, explosives, tasers, pepper spray, switchblades, and items designed to cause bodily harm
• Recalled products: Items subject to government safety recalls in any jurisdiction where ReNew Market operates
• Unsafe goods: Items that pose a safety risk and were not disclosed in the listing (e.g. recalled baby products, unsafe electrical goods)
• Stolen goods: Items that are known or suspected to be stolen property
• Illegal items: Any item whose sale, possession, or transfer is prohibited by applicable law
• Hazardous materials: Flammable liquids, corrosives, toxic substances, or biological hazards in any form
• Items promoting illegal activity: Goods designed to facilitate or promote illegal acts

Regulated Items

The following categories are regulated and may only be sold with explicit platform approval where permitted by law:

• Pharmaceuticals & supplements: Prescription medications, controlled substances, and unlabelled dietary supplements
• Alcohol & tobacco: All alcohol and tobacco products (including e-cigarettes and vaping supplies)
• Cannabis: All cannabis and cannabis-derived products regardless of local law
• Medical devices: Items regulated as medical devices without appropriate approvals
• Financial instruments: Gift cards at a discount, cryptocurrency, currency, and financial instruments
• Personal data: Any item containing or bundled with personally identifiable information of third parties
• Live animals: No live animals or wildlife products may be listed
• Protected wildlife: Items made from endangered species or protected animals (CITES-restricted materials)

Other Prohibited Items

• Adult content: Explicit adult material or sexual services
• Hate symbols: Items promoting hate, discrimination, or violence against protected groups
• Human remains: Human body parts, organs, or bodily fluids
• Misleading listings: Items listed with false descriptions, misleading images, or inaccurate condition ratings
• Off-platform services: Services designed to circumvent ReNew Market's payment system
• Lottery & gambling: Lottery tickets, gambling chips, or similar items
• Raffles & sweepstakes: Items used as prizes in unregulated competitions

Consequences of Policy Violations

Violations of this policy are taken seriously. Consequences scale with severity and frequency:

• Listing removal: The prohibited listing is removed immediately without prior notice
• Warning: First-time minor violations may receive a formal warning
• Listing restrictions: Sellers with repeat violations may face limits on new listings
• Account suspension: Three or more policy violations, or any single severe violation, may result in permanent suspension
• Legal referral: Counterfeit goods and illegal items may be reported to relevant law enforcement or brand rights holders
• Fund withholding: Funds may be held pending investigation of severe policy violations

Suspended sellers may appeal decisions by contacting our support team within 30 days. All appeals are reviewed by a member of our Trust & Safety team.

Reporting Prohibited Listings

If you encounter a listing that violates this policy, please use the "Report this listing" button on the product page. Select the most appropriate reason and provide any additional details that would help our review.

Listings that receive three or more pending reports are automatically hidden from public view pending review by our Trust & Safety team. We aim to review all reports within 2 business days.

False or malicious reports submitted to harm competitors are themselves a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in account action.
