Honest reviews from real buyers โ what's allowed and what isn't ยท Effective v1.0 (Beta) โ 2026
ReNew Market relies on honest reviews from real buyers to help our community make informed decisions. This policy explains what reviews are allowed, what is prohibited, and how we enforce these rules. It is informed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission Trade Regulation Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials (16 CFR Part 465).
1. Who Can Post Reviews
Only buyers who have completed a purchase through the ReNew Market checkout may post a review of that specific purchase. Reviews are tied to the verified order and cannot be reassigned.
2. Prohibited Reviews and Conduct
The following are strictly prohibited and may result in review removal, account suspension, permanent ban, and (where appropriate) reporting to the Federal Trade Commission:
- (a) Fake or fabricated reviews. Posting a review that does not reflect a genuine, real-world purchase experience. This includes reviews generated by artificial intelligence that misrepresent personal experience, reviews of items the reviewer never received, and reviews written under a fictitious identity.
- (b) Insider reviews without disclosure. Reviews posted by a seller about their own item, by an officer, employee, agent, or relative of the seller, or by anyone with a material connection to the seller โ unless that relationship is clearly and conspicuously disclosed in the review itself.
- (c) Incentivized reviews without disclosure. Reviews posted in exchange for compensation, discounts, gifts, free products, or any other benefit โ unless the reviewer affirmatively marks the review as "Incentivized" using the disclosure tool we provide.
- (d) Review trading or coordination. Soliciting positive reviews in exchange for positive reviews, coordinating with other sellers to up-vote each other, or any review-exchange scheme.
- (e) Suppressing negative reviews. Threatening, intimidating, harassing, or offering compensation to a reviewer in exchange for changing, removing, or not posting a negative review. We will not remove a review at a seller's request based on its content alone.
- (f) Misrepresenting social proof. Buying, selling, or facilitating fake followers, fake views, fake favorites, or any other indicator designed to misrepresent the popularity or social influence of a listing, seller, or piece of content on the platform.
- (g) Review gating. Soliciting reviews only from buyers who indicate they had a positive experience while diverting unhappy buyers away from the review system.
- (h) Off-platform manipulation. Posting reviews on third-party sites that purport to be from ReNew Market buyers but were not authentic platform purchases.
3. Sellers' Responses
Sellers may publicly respond to reviews of their listings. Responses must be professional and may not threaten, harass, dox, or retaliate against reviewers. Sellers may dispute factually inaccurate reviews by submitting evidence through the Trust & Safety review-dispute form.
4. ReNew Market's Right to Remove Reviews
We may remove reviews (and may not always notify the reviewer first) when the review violates this policy, includes personal information about another person, contains hate speech or threats, or is the subject of a substantiated factual-error dispute. We do not remove reviews because a seller dislikes the content.
5. Incentivized Review Disclosure Tool
When a reviewer received the item free, at a steep discount, or in exchange for any other benefit, the reviewer must mark the review as "Incentivized" using the disclosure toggle at the time of submission. Incentivized reviews are visibly tagged on the platform.
6. Reporting
To report a suspected violation of this policy, use the "Report this review" link on any review or contact reviews@renewmkt.com. We aim to investigate substantiated reports within five (5) business days.
7. Penalties
Violations may result in: review removal, restriction from posting reviews, listing removal, suspension of badge or seller status, account suspension, permanent ban, forfeiture of held payouts (subject to law), and reporting to the Federal Trade Commission or other authorities. The civil penalty under 16 CFR Part 465 is currently $51,744 per violation.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated by email and on the website at least fourteen (14) days before taking effect.
